The Science behind Fabimilk

Fabimilk products are made to exacting standards with specialty ingredients to ensure the best nutrition for baby, toddler and mother. test.

Health facts about the key ingredients used in Fabimilk products:

DHA and ARA

Breast milk contains Omega-3 and Omega-6 group of fatty acids.

Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA), an omega-3 fatty acid naturally found in breast milk, is a major structural component of the brain and eyes, representing about 97% of all omega-3 fats in the brain and 93% of all omega-3 fats in the retina. DHA is important for optimal infant brain and eye development and function.

Arachidonic Acid (ARA) also naturally found in breast milk, is the primary omega-6 fatty acid in the brain, representing about 48% of the omega-6 fats, and is important for optimal growth and proper infant brain development.

Protein

Fabimilk’s protein content, like that of mother’s milk, ensures rapid gastric emptying and the intake of essential amino acids. Fabimilk presents the same ratio casein/whey protein of 40/60 found in mother’s milk. Only the highest quality milk from the best dairy farms in Holland are used to make Fabimilk products.

Alpha-lactalbumin

Alpha-lactalbumin is a major contribution to the unique profile of essential amino acids in mother’s milk and produces an amino acid profile similar to breast fed infants. Alpha-lactalbumin is a major source of tryptophan, which helps neurological development. Alpha-lactalbumin also stimulates the microbiological benefits obtained with breast feeding.

  • Human and bovine alpha-lactalbumin have high sequence homology
  • Supplementation of alpha-lactalbumin to infant formula allows a reduced protein content
  • Bovine alpha-lactalbumin simulates the microbiological benefits obtained with breast feeding

Carbohydrates

Fabimilk milk products (except Fabimilk LF-88 lactose free milk) contains lactose, an easily digestible carbohydrate. Fabimilk infant milk’s high lactose content emulates breast milk and ensures good absorption of calcium contributing to formation of cerebrosids. Lactose also facilitates intestinal transit.

Vitamins

Fabimilk infant and follow on milk is strengthened with all the vitamins needed for the development of babies from birth to 12 months. Vitamin A contributes to the normal function of the immune system 1. Vitamins D, E and C ensure bone mineralization, eye and brain development and antioxidant protection.

Minerals

Fabimilk infant milk with its range of minerals, calcium and iron content assists physical and mental development. Fabimilk infant milk contains Magnesium, which contributes to normal development of bone 2 and Iron, which contributes to normal cognitive development 3. Fabimilk infant milk contains lesser amounts of macro minerals like sodium, potassium, chloride (Na, K, Cl) than cow’s milk. This reduces the renal solute load and helps prevent water balance disorders.

Calcium

Fabimilk infant milks provide 100% of the recommended calcium intake. The easily digestible fat and high vitamin D content aids good absorption of calcium and bone mineralization. Adequate calcium intake during childhood reduces the risk of osteoporosis in later adulthood.

Iron

During the first six months of life the infant’s iron requirements are met by breast or formula milk together with stores of iron in its body. Fabimilk infant milks provide enough iron to protect the infant from iron deficiency anaemia. From 6 months onwards, increased iron intake is required and cow’s milk alone is not able to supply this.

Fabimilk 2 follow on milk has higher iron content than cow’s milk and the high vitamin C content in the formula also increases iron absorption.

Fibre

There is strong clinical support that oligosaccharides contribute to both digestive and immune health. Oligosaccharides promote a healthy gut by serving as a source of energy for nurturing the growth of beneficial bacteria, suppressing the growth of harmful pathogens and acting as competitive ligands, which inhibit pathogen binding.

Nucleotides

Nucleotides (Adenosine, Guanosine, Inosine, Uridine and Cytidine) are needed during rapid growth, help reduce the risk of infant diarrhea and boost serum immunoglobulin A concentrations.

OPO (1,3-dioleoyl 2-palmitoyl triglyceride)

Nutrients absorption such as minerals, fats, carbohydrates and proteins are significantly important for normal infant’s growth and development (weight, length, bone mass, etc.) OPO is a clinically-proven fat ingredient for Fabimilk Allevia and Comfort infant milk. OPO’s manufacturing process is based on a proprietary enzymatic technology, providing structured triglycerides of the type found in mother’s milk.

OPO is a clinically-proven beta-palmitate fat ingredient that mimics the fat composition and properties of human milk fat. OPO is based on a patented enzymatic process providing structured triglycerides with a high level of palmitic acid in the middle (sn-2) position of the triglyceride. This unique fat enables easy digestion and optimized uptake of calcium, fat recovery and energy. OPO is tailored to address specific nutritional needs of Comfort milk. Clinical studies in preterm and term infants, as well as preclinical studies proved that the use of beta-palmitate results in:

  • Reduced stool hardness and related parental concern
  • Reduced calcium soaps formation
  • Increased calcium absorption
  • Larger skeletal mineral deposition
  • Reduced excretion of saturated fatty acids, mainly of palmitic acid

Prebiotics

The prebiotics used in Fabimilk are non-digestible fibres that stimulate the growth and/or activity of healthy bacteria (probiotics) in the digestive system in ways beneficial to health. Examples of prebiotic fibres includes inulin, fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS), galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS), and 2'-fucosyllactose (HMO) the most prevalent prebiotic found in breast milk.

Fat

Fat provides more than half the calories in breast milk and this applies to modern infant formulas. Fabimilk use a specific blend of vegetable fats to ensure adequate levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids for brain and eye development and to aid fat digestion.

Probiotics

Probiotics are gut microorganisms, in particular the Bifidobacterium genus, that support a healthy digestive system. Probiotics do this by producing certain enzymes needed in the digestion of food. Probiotics also improve the absorption of vitamins & minerals into the bloodstream, and even produce B complex vitamins & vitamin K. Probiotics support your immunity by stimulating the body’s natural defenses, and by lining the intestines with a protective layer of friendly bacteria that prevents pathogenic substances in the gut from harming the body.
